MapleStory Classic World beginner guide: finish Maple Island, pick your first job at level 10 and start leveling efficiently on Victoria Island.

This MapleStory Classic beginner guide covers Maple Island, where every new character in MapleStory Classic World starts: a short area built to teach the basics while handing out enough experience to reach your first job advancement at level 10. It walks through what to do on Maple Island, which base class and second job to pick, and the early mistakes that slow new players down.

Maple Island: your first few levels

Finish every quest available on Maple Island before taking the ship to Victoria Island. Most players reach around level 7-8 by the time the island quests run out, which is enough of a head start to go straight into training once you arrive.

Picking a base class and a safe first second job

Choose your future job before you spend any ability points: at level 10 you commit to one of four base classes (Warrior, Magician, Bowman or Thief) at its town trainer, and that choice decides which second-job branches you can pick from at level 30. See the full job advancement guide for every trainer location.

Two second jobs are commonly recommended for a first character: Fighter, a durable Warrior branch that forgives mistakes in melee range, and Cleric, whose Heal and buffs make it the safest class to level solo. Neither tops the class tier list for raw damage, but both are easier to learn on than a squishier damage class.

Early leveling tips

  • Train where you kill in one or two hits. Every extra hit costs MP and gives the monster another chance to hit you; if a mob takes three hits, move to weaker mobs until your gear catches up.
  • Party up when you can. Experience gains scale up sharply in a full six-player party compared with playing alone.
  • Follow the leveling guide for a level 1-30 training route once you are off Maple Island.

Common beginner mistakes

  • Fighting mobs that take three or more hits to kill, which wastes MP and time for little experience.
  • Leveling solo past level 10 instead of joining a party, which leaves a lot of experience on the table.
  • Picking a second job purely from a tier list instead of a playstyle you enjoy; see the tier list for where each class lands and why.
