MapleStory Classic Citizenship

MapleStory Classic citizenship guide: how to become a citizen of Henesys or Kerning City at level 12, the perks, and how Contribution raises your grade.

MapleStory Classic Citizenship is a system Nexon created for MapleStory Classic World. From level 12 a character can become an official resident of Henesys or Kerning City, earn Contribution by helping the townspeople and get discounts in that town. This guide explains how to sign up, what residents receive and how the two towns differ. The rules in the first two sections come from Nexon; grades and shop details are community-reported, and some still date from the closed test.

Talk to the NPC in the town you want to join. These are the only two towns that offer Citizenship in Nexon's release notes. Level 12 comes shortly after your first job at level 10, which the job advancement guide covers, so it fits naturally into the route in the beginner guide.

What MapleStory Classic Citizenship gives you

Nexon lists four perks for official residents:

  • Access to special items from the local specialty shop.
  • A discount on Cab prices.
  • A discount on Storage Keeper services.
  • A discount on some general store items.

Each town also has a Community Board with requests from local residents. Completing a request earns Contribution toward your Citizenship grade, and a higher grade unlocks more ways to help the town.

Henesys or Kerning City

You hold one town at a time, according to the community database. It reports that each town keeps its own progress: switching starts the new town from the beginning, the old town's progress is saved for your return, and the first move is free. It records a fee of 50,000 mesos for returning to a town at grade 1 and has not confirmed the fee at other grades.

The database also lists a different pair of buff potions in each town's shops:

TownBuff potions listed
HenesysSupreme Sniper Potion (accuracy +7) and Sharpness Potion (critical chance +3%)
Kerning CitySupreme Dexterity Potion (evasion +7) and Destructive Potion (critical damage +3%)

Neither Nexon nor the published lists say one town is better, so pick the town you will spend time in. Kerning City is where the party quest starts and where the Subway maps in the leveling guide begin; Henesys is the Bowman town. Both towns also have a crafting teacher.

Citizenship grades and discounts

The community database lists ten grades. It notes that the grade requirements still come from the second closed test, so treat this table as a preview until the launch values are confirmed.

The Community Board offers daily requests and a weekly donation of monster drops; the database reports that both pay more Contribution as your grade rises. Shops stay open to everyone, and a higher grade unlocks more of their stock.

Why Citizenship exists

In an interview Nexon published on October 2, 2026, the executive known as Inkwell named Citizenship and Forgotten Hollow as examples of content made specifically for Classic World, and said the team will keep mixing classic content with new systems rather than replay old updates in order. The third job guide covers the rest of that interview, and the updates page tracks Nexon's patches.
