MapleStory Classic Party Quest

MapleStory Classic party quest guide: Kerning City PQ (KPQ) requirements, channels, all five stages and the King Slime fight at the end.

5 min readLast checked Sources

The only MapleStory Classic party quest in the launch build is the Kerning City Party Quest, which players call KPQ and Nexon's release notes name First Time Together. It opens at level 21, runs on four channels and ends in a fight with King Slime. This guide covers who can enter, each of the five stages and the rewards. Entry rules come from Nexon; stage details and numbers are community-reported and marked as such.

The channel rule is recent. On October 8, 2026 Nexon updated its notes to say the quest is available only on Channels 3, 4, 5 and 6, because of increased activity on Channels 1 and 2. Lakelis stands by the sewer entrance, and the party leader is the one who talks to start the run. The community guide adds that several parties can be inside at once, so groups do not wait for each other.

Before your first run, take the one-time quest Proof of Companionship from Lakelis. It asks for one King Slime kill.

KPQ stages, one by one

StageWhat the party doesMost tries needed
Stage 1Kill Ligators for coupons. Cloto asks every member except the leader a question, and each answers by handing over that exact number of coupons for a pass.No guessing
Stage 2Four ropes. Three members hang on three of them and the leader asks Cloto to check.4 arrangements
Stage 3Five platforms holding one to five kittens. Three members stand on three of them.10 combinations
Stage 4Six numbered barrels. Three members stand on three of them.20 combinations
Last stageKill 6 Jr. Neckis, 3 Curse Eyes and King Slime. Each drops a coupon, and the leader hands all ten to Cloto.Boss fight

Stages 2 to 4 are trial and error: three members stand in a combination, the leader checks with Cloto, and you change one position until it is right. Go through the combinations in a fixed order so that none is skipped.

Job advancement level, any class10
EXP needed from level 1 to level 215
INT a Magician needs20
DEX a Bowman or Thief needs25
STR a Warrior needs35

These are the questions the community guide has recorded; it notes that footage from the August test showed other numbers too, so read the question before you count. The job advancement answer is 10 because every first job advancement in MapleStory Classic World happens at level 10, as the job advancement guide explains.

King Slime, the last stage

King Slime waits at the bottom of the final map, with Curse Eyes at the top and Jr. Neckis in between. The community database lists it at level 32 with 16,820 HP and 2,400 EXP in the launch build. It resists holy, fire, ice and lightning damage and splits into 11 Slimes when it dies. Jr. Neckis have high avoidability, so bring at least one member with enough accuracy to hit them.

A Cleric keeps the party standing through the fight, and the best class guide covers which classes hit a single target hardest. King Slime is separate from the five field bosses on the bosses page, though GMs also summon it in towns during the launch events.

MapleStory Classic party quest rewards

  • EXP for each stage cleared, plus the kills inside.
  • Companion's Magic Box for every member who completes the run.
  • Squishy Shoes, a possible drop from King Slime: level 28 shoes with +1 to all four stats, usable by any class and tradeable.
  • A bonus room after the boss, packed with Horny Mushrooms and Green Mushrooms.

Talk to Nella to leave; the quest maps have no ordinary portals. From level 21 the quest is an alternative to the Ant Tunnel maps in the leveling guide, and Kerning City is also one of the two towns where you can take Citizenship.

If someone dies or leaves

The MapleStory Classic party quest is more forgiving than the original. According to the community guide, dying no longer ends your run: a player who died in the August test walked back in. A party that drops to three can still finish, because the leader fills the empty spot on the puzzle stages. A party that drops to two before the puzzles are done cannot.
