The MapleStory Classic best class depends on what you want from it: the fastest leveling, the safest solo play, the biggest single hit or a spot in every party. MapleStory Classic World has ten second-job classes at launch, and this guide matches each goal to a class using the 3 published tier lists this wiki tracks and the class guides behind them. Tiers shown here are the middle rank of those lists, read on 2026-10-19; they are not our opinion.

Ranged single-target damageAssassinSLucky Seven gives high burst from a safe distance, with Thief mobility and Haste on top.
Melee single-target damageBanditASavage Blow does the most sustained damage up close, if you accept standing next to the target.

Single targets as a BowmanCrossbowmanAThe hardest single hit in the Bowman line, which guides prefer over Hunter for bosses.
A forgiving first characterFighterBHigh health and cheap skills forgive mistakes while you learn monster patterns.

Your base class is locked at level 10 and your second job at level 30, so read the job advancement guide before you spend any ability points. Nexon's release notes allow three characters per account, which leaves room to try a second pick.

MapleStory Classic best class for solo leveling and mobbing

For raw leveling speed the class guides agree on Ice/Lightning Wizard. Lightning Bolt damages up to six monsters at once, which suits the dense maps in the leveling guide, and 2 of the 3 lists put it in their top tier. Fire/Poison Wizard is the other mage for solo farming: it gives up some area coverage for steadier single-target damage.

If dying less matters more than speed, Cleric is the class the guides call the safest to level alone, because Heal replaces potions. Its own damage is the lowest of the ten classes, which is why the lists disagree on it more than on any other class: they rank it anywhere from B to S, depending on how much weight they give to party value.

Best class for bossing and single targets

No published list ranks the classes on bosses alone, and Nexon has not published boss rankings. What the class guides do say is which classes hit one target hardest. Assassin has the highest ranged burst through Lucky Seven. Bandit does more sustained damage with Savage Blow but has to stand in melee range. Crossbowman is the Bowman the guides single out for bosses and armored targets, while Hunter is the safer mobbing pick with Arrow Bomb's stun.

The five launch bosses and King Slime in the Kerning City Party Quest are group fights, and groups want a Cleric for Heal whatever its damage rank.

Best Warrior class

The published lists do not separate the three Warrior branches: each list gives Fighter, Page and Spearman the same tier. Pick by role instead.

  • Fighter: the most durable start, with a party attack buff. The common recommendation for a first Warrior.
  • Page: elemental sword skills and crowd control, a more defensive and support-leaning role.
  • Spearman: polearm reach that tags several monsters from melee range, and the branch guides describe as the most party-oriented.

MapleStory Classic best class FAQ

What is the strongest class in MapleStory Classic World?

By the middle rank of the 3 published lists, Ice/Lightning Wizard and Assassin are the S-tier classes. All of these lists were written for second job, the highest job in the launch build.

What is the best class to play as a beginner?

Fighter and Cleric are the two starts guides recommend most often: Fighter for its durability in melee, Cleric for Heal and the safest leveling. The beginner guide covers the first ten levels for both.

Can I change class if I pick the wrong one?

No. The base class is fixed at level 10 and the second job at level 30. A different class means a new character, and an account can hold three.

Will third job change the best class?

It may, but third job is not in the launch build and Nexon has not dated it. The third job guide tracks what Nexon has said.
