MapleStory Classic crafting is a brand-new system that Nexon built for MapleStory Classic World. Characters of level 10 and above can turn the materials they collect into equipment, ammunition and scrolls at six crafting NPCs. This guide lists the six professions, where each teacher stands and how the unlock levels work. Profession and NPC names come from Nexon's release notes; towns, quests and level rules are community-reported.
MapleStory Classic crafting professions and NPCs
| Profession | NPC | Town | What it makes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Smithing | Silas Irons | Perion | Ingots from ore, plus helmets and shields |
| Weaponcrafting | Mr. Thunder | Perion | Weapons, and screws as a material |
| Tailoring | Francois | Ellinia | Processed cloth, thread and cloth equipment |
| Woodcrafting | Vicious | Henesys Market | Processed wood, and arrows for bows and crossbows |
| Leatherworking | JM From tha Streetz | Kerning City | Processed leather and leather equipment |
| Arcforge | Chrishrama | Sleepywood | Gems from ore, parchment, scrolls and wands |
Nexon describes the loop simply: visit a crafting NPC to see what you can make and which materials it needs, and as you keep crafting your skill grows and more recipes open. Four of the towns are also the job trainer towns in the job advancement guide, so you pass a teacher on the way to your first job.
How to unlock a profession
The community database records one unlock quest per profession, available from character level 10. Each teacher sets a short test: defeat some monsters near town and bring back a raw material. Passing it opens the profession at crafting level 1. Two follow-up quests come later:
- Character level 15: a small delivery that rewards the profession's kit.
- Character level 25: craft one named item to earn the profession's first catalyst.
Two professions have an extra condition. Mr. Thunder only accepts you after Silas Irons has, and his test is a Bronze Ingot and an Iron Ingot you smith yourself, so Weaponcrafting always comes after Smithing. Chrishrama is the only teacher outside the four job towns, so Arcforge opens once you can reach Sleepywood.
Crafting levels and the character level cap
Each profession has its own crafting level. According to the community database, crafting levels 2 to 8 each need a character level of five times the crafting level:
| Crafting level | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Character level needed | 10 | 15 | 20 | 25 | 30 | 35 | 40 |
If your crafting experience fills before your character level catches up, it stays at 100 percent and further crafts earn nothing, so level your character before a long crafting session. The leveling guide has training maps for each bracket. Crafting stops at level 8 in the launch build; the database lists 348 recipes across the six professions, with the level 9 and 10 recipes not available yet.
Which MapleStory Classic crafting profession to start with
Neither Nexon nor the lists this wiki tracks rank the professions, so this is a matter of what your class uses rather than a tier list:
- Bowmen: Woodcrafting makes arrows for bows and crossbows. See Hunter and Crossbowman.
- Warriors: Smithing supplies ingots, helmets and shields, and it is required before Weaponcrafting.
- Magicians: Arcforge covers gems, scrolls and wands.
- Thieves: Leatherworking is taught in Kerning City, the same town as the Thief trainer.
Smithing is a sensible first pick for anyone, because Weaponcrafting requires it and uses its ingots. The best class guide helps if you have not settled on a class yet, and the beginner guide covers the levels before crafting opens.
Crafting and Citizenship
Crafting is one of the new systems in Nexon's release notes, next to Citizenship, which opens at level 12 in Henesys and Kerning City. Vicious and JM From tha Streetz teach in those same two towns, so a citizen can check the Community Board and craft in one visit. From level 21 the Kerning City Party Quest starts in Kerning City as well.
