There are two official ways to get the MapleStory Classic download: the Nexon Launcher and Steam. Both run on Windows and macOS, both need a verified Nexon account, and both are free to install. Nexon recommends the launcher if disk space matters. On Steam the two games ship as a single build, so you install the base game to reach Classic World. Nexon's posts do not give a download size for either client.
How to install through the Nexon Launcher
- Download the Nexon Launcher from Nexon's website and install it.
- Log in with your Nexon account. A new account has to verify its email address first.
- Find MapleStory in your library and select the MapleStory Classic World toggle.
- Download the standalone client and press play.
How to install through Steam
- Open your Steam library and find MapleStory.
- Click Install, choose a drive and let the base game download and update fully.
- Link your Nexon account to your Steam profile. Nexon recommends doing this on its website, under Account Settings; you can also sign in when MapleStory first launches from Steam.
- Launch MapleStory and choose Classic World.

MapleStory Classic download on Mac
MapleStory Classic World is playable on macOS. Nexon's FAQ points Mac players to the same two routes: the Nexon Launcher, or the MapleStory listing on Steam. The Steam store page for the Zakum Package lists Windows and macOS as its platforms. Nexon's posts name no other platform, so there is no official word on Linux, Steam Deck, consoles or mobile.
Who can play right now
Until the Grand Launch, logging in needs Founder's Access, which comes with the Orange Mushroom and Zakum packages. The Grand Launch is on October 21, 2026 at 11:00 AM PDT on both the Nexon Launcher and Steam; the release date guide lists the time in other regions. You can install ahead of time, as Nexon suggested before Founder's Access, so the client is patched when the servers open.
Controllers, key bindings and language
- Controllers: DualSense, DualShock and Xbox controllers are officially supported, over USB or Bluetooth. Turn on Enable Controller Support in Game Options first; it is off by default.
- Key bindings: choose Classic Style or Modern Style as the default. Modern Style supports WASD movement.
- Language: English is supported and Spanish is in beta. Change it at the login screen or in Game Options, then relaunch.
- One game at a time: MapleStory and Classic World cannot both be open.
- Characters: an account can create up to three characters, and character names are not shared with MapleStory.
